YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS: Seyran Shakhsuvaryan, a spokesman for Armenian defense ministry, said a rescue team searching the missing war-plane, had found the body of the pilot today morning 15 km north of Gyumri. He said the wrecked war-plane was spotted by army helicopters after they found the plane’s fragments.
The Russian military plane was declared missing Wednesday after failing to return from a training flight. It disappeared from the radar screens shortly after taking off from the Erebuni military airport in Yerevan early in the afternoon. The plane was operated by a 39-year-old pilot identified as Konstantin Kardash.
The jet was part of a squad of about two dozen MiG-29s deployed by Russia in its military base in Armenia together with sophisticated S-300 surface-to-air missiles as part of a Russian-Armenian plan to boost the country’s air-defense system.
