yergir: Armenian Patriarch denied a trip to Van

For the second time the Turkish authorities have prevented Constantinople Patriarch Archbishop Mesrop Mutafian from making a trip to Van to participate in the pilgrimage dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of Narek, the Armenian newspaper Marmara, published in Istanbul reported.

Despite the previous agreement, the Patriarch was told at the airport that there were no seats available on the plane and was suggested to make a trip using unacceptable means which was denied by the religious leader.

The Patriarch told Marmara that this was the second time he was denied a trip to Van. “The Patriarch is asking, ‘Are some people concerned about the trip’,” Marmara wrote.

Archbishop Mutafian expressed disappointment that he was not able to participate in a pilgrimage he had organized and which will be attended by hundreds of pilgrims from Armenia and Diaspora.
