ANKARA – Armenian nuclear plant Medzomor, fifteen kilometers from Turkey’s border city of Igdir casts a threat for the people living in the region says the Mayor of Igdir Nurettin Aras on Friday.
Speaking to Anatolia news agency Aras said the people of Igdir are frightened because of the nuclear plant, adding, “It is not casting a threat only for Igdir people but for the Armenians in the region.”
Recalling a nuclear radiation leak after an eartquake in 1988, Aras said they are taking radiation measures in seven different places a day.
“The plant is using 1970s technology,” he added.
“We conveyed the problems that we encounter to the ministers and officials visiting the region,” said Aras.
Aras stated the plant is not meeting the European Union standards and it is one of the most dangerous nuclear plants in EU besides Bulgaria’s Kozluduy plant.
