panarmanian: SOME 2000 ARMENIANS LIVE IN LITHUANIA TODAY

Some 1500-2000 Armenians reside in Lithuania at present. After attaining independence the majority of them acquired Lithuanian citizenship. As the press service of the Armenian president told “Arminfo” agency, most of representatives of the Armenian community have arrived in Lithuania in 1960-70. There is a Sunday school in the capital – Vilnius, the construction of an Armenian church will begin soon. In 2001 on the occasion of the 1700-th anniversary of adoption of Christianity by Armenia an Armenian khachkar (cross stone) was erected on the “Mount of Crosses” in the outskirts of Shauliai city. The majority of Lithuanian Armenians are representatives of intelligentsia and business circles.
