The volume of foreign investments in Armenia’s economy (excluding
credits received by the banking sector) amounted to $75.3m in the first
half of 2003, which was 19.8 percent higher than in the corresponding
period of last year. Direct foreign investments were $36.2m in the
first six months of 2003, which was 25.2 percent lower than in the
period from January to June 2002, the Arminfo news agency reported
citing the Armenian national statistics service. Some 3.5 percent
of direct investments ($1.3m) were resources raised from selling
state enterprise.
The amount of Russian investments in Armenia’s economy jumped by 2.4
times to $19.8m in the first half of this year. Among other investors
were Germany ($1.8m), Greece ($11.7m), Switzerland ($466,000),
Netherlands ($870,400). Investments from the USA dropped by 32.4
percent to $7.5m, from Canada by 89.5 percent to $946,000 and Iran
by 79.5 percent to $200,000.
