YEREVAN, AUGUST 26. ARMINFO. The Swedish migration service proved powerless in negotiating with Azerbaijan’s authorities over deporting an Armenian family with Azerbaijani citizenship from Sweden, the Baku “Echo” newspaper reports, referring to the “Sydostran” newspaper.
According to the source, the Armenian family, two adults and three children, was denied asylum in Sweden early in August, after which the Swedish relevant bodies decided to deport the family to Baku. Swedish policemen accompanied the family to Baku, but, after their hour-long stay at the airport, the Baku authorities refused to receive the Armenia family, and the group had to go back. The deportation decision still holds good, but the lawyer intends to lodge a new petition with the Swedish migration department, pleading the impossibility of deporting Armenians with Azerbaijani citizenship.
