ILHAM ALIYEV: FULL LIBERATION OF OCCUPIED TERRITORIES KARABAKH CONFLICT’S ONLY SETTLEMENT SCHEME
YEREVAN, AUGUST 15. ARMINFO. A full liberation of the occupied territories is the only settlement scheme of the Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan Premier, Ilham ALiyev, made such a statement in his interview to “Izvestia” newspaper.
He said that the settlement would result in negotiations for Nagorny-Karabakh’s status. “If Armenia thinks that it can use the situation and make us to go on unilateral cessions damaging our interests or territorial integrity, it errs. The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will be maintained, and the international law must triumph over it,” Ilham Aliyev said, expressing hope for the conflict’s settlement in the near future.
Premier Aliyev noted that official Baku would like to achieve this goal in a peaceful way. “Such is the policy of the president, and I fully support it. The Azerbaijani people is against war. We have many plans for the future. However, it should be a mutual desire,” he said. In his words, the Armenian party should understand that it will achieve nothing through violence. Moreover, Aliyev said: “Taking into acocunt the results of the war, the post-war situation in Azerbaijan and Armenia, the aftermaths remain under question.”
Touching upon the possibility of resumption of military actions, he said that Azerbaijan has always thought it possible. “But, we think that the chances for peaceful settlement of the conflict has not been exhausted,” he said. “The process is artificially protracted, and it is Armenia’s guilt. We would like to intensify it. That is why we shall aspire for only peaceful settlement of the conflict,” Premier Aliyev said.
