NEW GAS PIPELINE STARTS OPERATING
A natural gas pipeline was inaugurated recently in the village of Vank, Nagorno Karabagh. Funds for building the pipeline were raised by Armenian benefactors from the Canadian Toronto. Last year their funds helped to build another pipeline feeding four villages. Residents of these villages never saw natural gas in their homes and they had to collect firewood in nearby forests to warm their houses in winter. These two pipelines are important also in terms of preventing further tree chopping.
The Armenian community of Canada has helped to implement a range of very important projects in Karabagh since the establishment of the pan-Armenian Hayastan Fund, such as building drinking water pipelines, a boarding school in Stepanakert, furnishing schools with computers and others.
