YEREVAN, JULY 3. ARMINFO. The fact that in establishing relations with Armenia Turkey does not raise issues related to a third party, but focuses its attention exclusively on the settlement of bilateral tasks is an advance towards Armenian-Turkish rapprochement, Armenia’s FM Vartan Oskanyan told Armenia’s Public Television while summing up the results of his meeting with Turkish FM Abdullah Gul.
He said that if earlier Ankara considered the Karabakh conflict settlement as a precondition for improving its relations with Yerevan, now it is concerned over the latter’s demands to recognize the Armenian Genocide. To this testifies the fact that during their next meeting the Azeri, Armenia and Turkish FMs are not going to discuss the Karabakh issue.
Instead the sides will consider regional issues, particularly, that of Armenian-Turkish rapprochement. The Karabakh issue may still be on agenda but the sides will merely exchange opinions on it.
Oskanyan said that Turkey cannot be a mediator in the Karabakh conflict settlement. As long as the Turkish-Azeri-Armenian meetings are not aimed at involving Turkey in the conflict settlement Armenia will take part in them. “Turkey has decided to change its tactics – to use positive methods for attaining progress in the regional processes, especially, in the Karabakh problem.”
