azg: ARMENIAN JUDGE SWORN IN AT EUROPEAN COURT

Armenian foreign affairs ministry said that Alvina Gyulumyan, a new member of the Strasbourg-based European Human Rights Court, elected form Armenia, was sworn in Thursday. The ministry said the ceremony was attended by senior members of the Council of Europe and European Court.

Alvina Gyulumyan was elected 2 April 2003 by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Mrs. Alvina Gyulumyan was born in 1956. She was at the Constitutional Court of Armenia since 1996 and lectured in human rights at Yerevan State University. Mrs. Gyulumyan has been President of the Association of Judges of Armenia since 1997.

The terms of office of Mrs. Gyulumyan, who is the first judges from Armenia, will expire on 31 October 2007.
