LVIV, Ukraine — Serhiy Fedeorov scored the match-winning goal two
minutes into injury time Saturday as Ukraine held off Armenia 4-3 in
a 2004 European Championship qualifying match for Group 6.
Andriy Shevchenko had two goals for Ukraine and Oleksandr Horshkov
had the other.
Armenia’s Albert Sarkisian, who also scored two goals, opened the
scoring on a penalty kick in the 14th minute after Ukraine’s Oleg
Luzhnyi fouled Armen Karamian.
Horshkov equalized with a header in the 28th minute, but Sarkisian
again put Armenia ahead in the 52nd.
Shevchenko struck from the penalty spot 14 minutes later and put
Ukraine ahead 3-2 in the 73rd. One minute later, Armenia’s Artur
Petrosian leveled.
Ukraine remains in second place with nine points, one point behind
group leader Spain, which faced Greece in a match later Saturday.
