MAY 28. The 14th marathon of invalids was held in Yerevan today. It was organized by the Union of Invalids “Pyunik” on the occasion of the Day of Republic.
Participating in the marathon were invalids from various Armenian towns, including 40 ones on wheelchairs. “This action is not only a way to mark the national holiday but a good opportunity to draw the public’s attention to the problems of invalids,” the union’s chairman Hakop Abrahamyan told journalists after the marathon, which finished in Etchmiadzin.
Besides marathons the union holds annual summer and winter camps and other measures aimed at integrating invalids into Armenian society. The union’s assistance also covers humanitarian programs. Last year almost 2,000 families of invalids were provided with US humanitarian aid. The organization unites almost 3,000 invalids, their total number in Armenia being 110,000.
