MAY 21. The Turkish Government is already considering the possibility of opening Turkey’s border with Armenia. Turkish FM Minister Abdullah Gul have even said that he border may be opened in the very near future.
Turkish media note that even though this policy may vex the Turkish nationalists and the Azeri authorities Turkey may nevertheless make such a concession in order to raise its international image.
Gul is reported to have said in Antalia that “if Armenia is ready to recognize Turkey’s territorial integrity and to renounce its territorial claims, Ankara is ready to be friends with Yerevan.” He said that Ankara advocates friendly relations with all of its neighbors. The relations with Russia, Greece, Syria, Iran, Bulgaria are quire normal. The only problem is with Armenia “but we are ready to be friends with it.”-
