MAY 20. The world-famous French singer of Armenian origin Charles Aznavour has arrived in Yerevan today.
During hiv trip to Armenia, Aznavour intends to visit the Khor-Virap complex, which went down to Christian history thanks to Gregory the Illuminator, one of the preachers of Christianity in Armenia, who spent 13 years in a pit for persons sentenced to death, but later became the first Armenian Catholicos. Charles Aznavour will also visit the Geghard complex of monasteries and the unique monument of pagan culture in the former USSR, the Garni Temple of the first century B.C.
Aznavour is scheduled to hold meetings with Armenian President Robert Kocharian, Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, Armenia’s top officials and workers of culture. On May 22, the renowned singer will mark his 79th birthday anniversary.
Meeting Charles Aznavour at the Yerevan airport were Yerevan Mayor Robert Nazarian and French Ambassador to Armenia Henry Cuny. Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Armen Khachatrian returned to Yerevan from Lvov on the same plane with the renowned singer.
