YEREVAN, MAY 13, ARMENPRESS: One of the most prominent contemporary Armenian artists, Hagob Hakobyan, who turns 80 May 25, will celebrate the anniversary by opening an exhibition of his works, May 16, at the Yerevan-based House of Painters.
Born in Egypt and educated at the Armenian Melkonian School in Cyprus and at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, Hagopyan first set foot in his native land in 1962 at 40 years of age. The artist’s talent overcame the psychological barriers and he soon put down roots in his new surroundings. In Armenia, Hagopyan discovered something new, he found his own Armenia.
