armenpress: US EMBASSY IN TBILISI TO START PROCESSING IMMIGRANT VISAS TO ARMENIAN CITIZENS

YEREVAN, MAY 12, ARMENPRESS: The US Embassy in Tbilisi will start processing immigrant visas for Armenian citizens /including adoption cases/ on October 1, 2003, reported the press office of the US Embassy in Armenia. Additionally, American Embassy Tbilisi will process immigrant visas for citizens of Georgia as of May 1, 2003 and Azerbaijan citizens as of October 1, 2003.

Currently, immigrant visa applicants from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan /including adoption cases/ must travel to the American Embassy in Moscow for their interviews and final immigrant visa processing.

American Embassy Tbilisi is coordinating the transfer of immigrant visa files /including adoption cases/ with the American embassy Moscow, the National Visa center and the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services /BCIS/, formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service /INS/.

This change in regional centralization of immigrant visa processing will not affect other consular services currently offered by the US Embassies in Yerevan, Baku and Tbilisi. Consular sections in all three countries will continue to conduct Orphan investigations /I-604/ as well as accept clearly approvable Immigrant Visa Petitions /I-130/ for the direct relatives of American citizens.
