University lecturers and researchers discussed the Armenian problem ahead of April 24, the day which is marked in the West as “the anniversary of the Armenian genocide”.
Abant Izzet Baysal University (AIBU) organized a panel on the Armenian problem on Friday attended by many university lecturers and researchers.
Chairing the panel, AIBU Rector professor Yasar Akbiyik said that the Turks and Armenians were not foes, claiming that certain nations were trying to make these two foes.
Military Strategic Research Center (ASAM)’s Armenian Research Institute professor Senol Kantarci told the panel that there were many attempts to recognize the so-called Armenian genocide on the international platform.
“A monument will be put on display in Paris on April 24. The Armenian lobbies in the U.S. will post letters to Colin Powell. They even collected signatures to push U.S. President Bush to use genocide in his address to the nation,” Kantarci said.
Kantarci stressed that the Armenians aimed to create a big Armenia by uniting Turkey’s eastern provinces and the lands that they are currently living on. “All these attempts are groundless and in vain. The only factor that turned the Armenian problem into an international one is the United States,” he added.
Middle East Technical University professor Secil Karal Akgun said that the Turks could not investigate this issue since there are no scientists speaking Armenian. Akgun suggested that the Turkish scientists should learn Armenian and investigate the issue in foreign sources.
