Addressing the US Congress foreign aid subcommittee Congressman Adam Schiff stated that in 2004 the US should grant Armenia, which is experiencing “a shock blockade,” not $45 million, as proposed by president Bush, but $90 million. According to “Daily News,” “Arminfo” agency reports, to substantiate his demand Schiff stated that the national produce of Armenia declined over 30% upon Azerbaijan and Turkey beginning the blockade against the country. “Withdrawal of Armenia from regional and international trade hampers progress in the country and its accession to the international community,” – he said. Schiff also pointed out the circumstance that Armenia had not yet recovered from the destructive earthquake of 1988. At the same time he emphasized that the proposal should be discussed before September, as that time next year the House of Representatives and Senate were going to vote and approve the package of aid being rendered to foreign states.
