YEREVAN, April 4 (Noyan Tapan). On April 9, the day when the President will be sworn in, the united opposition convenes a rally in the vicinity of the Ancient Manuscripts Depository (Matenadaran) in order to evaluate the situation in the country, opposition representatives declared during a rally held on April 4. The second swearing-in of Robert Kocharian is pointless for the oath given by him with his hand on the Bible and Constitution five years ago was violated by “his immoral behavior and illegal actions”, the head of the “Hanrapetutiun” (Republic) political council Albert Bazeyan claimed. “We are confident that our struggle will be pursued without respite till Robert Kocharian and his regime are overthrown,” Bazeyan said. The rally was delayed: the witnesses stated that the police confiscated the car with the equipment necessary for staging the rally, besides, the district was cut off electricity during the rally. The former presidential candidate, People’s Party of Armenia leader Stepan Demirchian called ridiculous attempts to thwart the rally. He expressed his surprise at the fact that the authorities qualified the violations as “mentality” and the appealing of the vote outcomes in the Constitutional Court as “technology.” Some serious data was presented to the Constitutional Court and it is not the question of the person but that of the state and statehood, Mr. Demirchian stated. The rally participants issued an appeal to the CC members urging them to act in the interests of justice and the country and recognize the vote results invalid. “The elections were marred with numerous violations and violence as a result of which the country found itself facing the danger of having an illegitimate president. The illegitimate authorities threaten the security of the country as well as national and state interests. The fate of our country, its present and future are in your hands,” the message reads.
