The religious leader of Iraqi Armenians Archbishop Avak Asadurian was expected to arrive in Baghdad today. On his way from the USA to Iraq the Archbishop stopped for a two-day visit in London, where he met with Archbishop Canterbury Rowan Williams and Jonathan Gugi, who is involved in ecumenical issues, to discuss the situation in Iraq and the plight of Armenian community there.
Williams handed over to Armenian Archbishop a message of peace, addressed to all Iraqi Christians. He said he was negotiating with British authorities on providing humanitarian aid to Iraqi population.
Archbishop Asadurian was in the USA for two months where he met with Catholic Cardinals of New York and Chicago. Asadurian left for Damascus at the weekend to move from there to Baghdad.
