MARCH 31. Inspired by the 2:0 victory of their younger counterparts a day before, the national football team of Armenia beat Northern Ireland 1:0 Saturday to break the almost three-year non-victory series in qualifying rounds of EURO and World Cups.
The victory was due mostly to a last-hope breakthrough and dead shot of Armenia’s captain Artur Petrossyan and safe play of their goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky (from Dinamo Moscow).
It was the first match under the coachship of the Romanian specialist Mihai Stoikica. Now Armenia are to face the Wednesday guest match against the second strongest team of the world Spain, who made a 2:2 guest draw with Ukraine in the last round.-
