lraper: Archbishop Avak is in Damascus

LONDON – His Eminence Archbishop Avak Asadourian of Baghdad, visited London for two days this week. During his time in London, he met with His Grace Archbishop Rowan Williams of Canterbury, and discussed with him and his Ecumenical Officer The Revd Jonathan Gough the present situation in Iraq and the post-war future of the whole country and its communities.

Archbishop Rowan Williams reassured the Armenian Primate of his personal prayers, and handed him a letter addressed to all Christian Churches, communities as well as peoples of Iraq. Quoting from the Holy Bible that ‘If one part of the Body suffers, all suffer’, Archbishop Rowan Williams also added that he was in constant meetings with British government officials in order to facilitate the humanitarian relief efforts that would be undertaken to help the Iraqi people.

Archbishop Avak Asadourian had been in the United States where he held meetings with the Catholic Cardinals of New York and Chicago, the National Council of Churches of Christ (USA) and different Armenian philanthropic organisations. Archbishop Avak Asadourian left London for Damascus on his way back to Baghdad.
