The congratulation message of the Turkish president to Robert Kocharian on the occasion of his reelection as the Armenian president causes surprise at least. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, Azeri foreign minister Vilayat Guliyev told journalists. In his words, “maybe the Turkish authorities were guided by protocol etiquette, but even if this is the case Ankara’s actions are hard to explain first of all due to the fact that Kocharian has always been marked for his anti-Turkish stand and is the initiator of the campaign of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the international community.” In response to it Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Unal Chevikez called Sezer’s congratulation message “a common protocol measure” and emphasized it did not have any political hidden motive. At the same time he stated that it should not be taken as a change in Ankara’s attitude towards Yerevan.
