Yesterday [24 March] we received a report saying that the USA had written to
the Republic of Armenia regarding the rent of a military airport in Armenia.
According to our information, in the letter addressed to the Armenian Defence
Ministry the Americans expressed their interest in renting out the airport in
Gyumri. It is now clear that the Armenian authorities are facing a difficult
choice. Naturally the Russian Federation will be strictly against it, whereas
the Americans are very much interested in that. Shirak airport in Gyumri is a
closed joint-stock company where the state owns 100 per cent of shares.
