YEREVAN, MARCH 24, ARMENPRESS: Syrian charge d’affaires to Armenia Fayez Absi told Armenpress that Iraqi Armenians who will flee Iraq to escape the US-led war, will face no problems when trying to enter the Syrian territory. “There are no restrictions for anyone carrying an Arab country’s passport to enter the Syrian territory, this means that any Iraqi Armenian can freely arrive in Syria,” the ambassador said.
Mr. Absi said no restrictions will be imposed either on Armenian citizens in Iraq wishing to enter Syria. “They will be welcomed in Syria and will not face problems as the Armenian embassy in Syria is prepared to take care of them. Syria has always been a country to provide shelter and assistance to people, especially those in dire need. Many Armenians escaping the Genocide of 1915 settled down in Syria becoming later legitimate citizens and we are proud of Armenian community members who are defending the country’s interests equally with others,” he said.
The charge d’affaires repeated that his country was always supporting peaceful and diplomatic ways of resolving any critical situation. He said the US administration failed to respect the international community’s will and is acting without an appropriate sanction of the UN Security Council.
“The US calls for establishment and consolidation of democracy throughout the world, but its steps are in gross violation of all international laws and even its allies have disapproved the war,” he said.
He also raised concerns in regard to possible ecological aftereffects of the war on the region, saying they will not affect the US, but will affect Middle and Europe’s countries.
