Both Sargis Sargsyan and David Nalbandian have suffered defeats in the first round of Pacific Life Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells, Florida. The tournament concludes this weekend.

Sargsyan lost 4-6, 7-6 (5), 4-6 to Juan Carlos Ferrero, ranked 7, while Nalbandian suffered 6-4, 4-6, 5-7 defeat from Argentinean Juan Ignacio Chela, ranked 50.

In the previous week’s play, Sargsyan suffered defeat in the second round of a tournament in Delray Beach Florida.

After beating snumber two seed Guillermo Coria from Argentina in the first round he lost 7-5, 4-6, 0-1 (walkover) in the second round to Vladimir Voltchkov of Belarus, ranked 57.

Sargsyan, of Yerevan, earned $6,225 and collected 3 Race points. For the present moment he is holding 34th place in the ATP rankings.

Nalbandian, of Argentina, seeded 3 at the Franklin Templeton Tennis Classic International Series Tournament lost 6-0, 3-6, 4-6 in the quarterfinals of the competition to Mark Philippoussis from Australia.

For the present moment Nalbandian holds 14th place in the ATP rankings.

Both Sargsyan and Nalbandian moved one position down in the rankings. Meanwhile Andre Agassi, despite his loss in the first round of the Franklin Templeton Tennis Classic, is still No. 1 in ATP with 235 Race points.
