YEREVAN, February 21 (Noyan Tapan). 154.1 thousand people searching jobs were registered at the “RA Employment Agency” of the RA Ministry of Social Security at the end of December, 2002. Among them 152.5 thousand were unemployed people. 127.3 thousand people received the status of unemployed. According to the RA National Statistical Service, in 2002, the level of officially registered unemployment made 9.4%, and the number of candidates applying for a vacancy made 170 people. In 2002, the number of jobless people receiving welfare benefits decreased by 6,000 people in the republic, and the average amount of unemployment benefit made 3,214 drams (about 5.5 dollars). 94.4% of unemployed people is centralized in urban areas, among them 26.6% is centralized in Yerevan, 19.9% – in Gyumri, 11.2% – in Vanadzor. 489 people out of the total number of unemployed people received professional education, 252 of them were taken to jobs. According to applications submitted by employers, the greatest demand of manpower is in the sphere of industry (52% of the total demand). The demand of teachers makes 14.7%, the demand of doctors makes 1.2%, the demand of weavers makes 23.8%, the demand of drivers makes 6.3%, the demand of blue-collor workers, who don’t have profession, makes 17.3%.
