Yerevan. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate of the
United States have approved a bill on provision of $90m worth of
financial aid to Armenia in the year 2003. Despite the fact that the
volume of financial assistance to former USSR countries dwindled by
$24m, the volume of appropriations for Armenia has been maintained
at last year’s level, our correspondent reported with reference to
the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
ANCA will continue working to forestall sharp reduction of U.S.
financial assistance to Armenia in 2004. According to a U.S.
Congressman Joe Nollenberg, “Armenia is a key partner of the United
States in the region and the financial aid is meant to consolidate
and promote our relationship in future”.
The U.S. government plans to provide some $49.5m for Armenia in the
year 2004.
