The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe has opened a special office in Armenia to monitor February’s presidential election.
The Election Observation Mission will watch the presidential campaign and the voting to see if the process conforms to international standards for democratic elections agreed to by all OSCE participating states. The mission will also check to see that Armenia’s election laws are followed.
The 26 international observers from 16 OSCE countries will monitor the election campaign, including the media, the political campaign, the administrative preparations and the resolution of any election disputes.
The OSCE will also send some 250 short-term observers to monitor voting, ballot counting and the tabulation of final election results.
In addition to the head office in Yerevan, OSCE election mission members will be deployed to major cities throughout Armenia.
