January 23 the Armenian Atomic Station will resume supplies of electric power to the energy network of Armenia. Armenian minister of energy Armen Movsisian told journalists. In his words, the resumption of the operation of the station will be secured at the expense of the fuel available in the reactor tank, which will last out three months. After that, approximately at the beginning of June, the station will be stopped operating for 65 days to undergo preventive repairs, during which it will be refueled. Besides, it is planned to explore the nuclear reactor and hold measures directed at further enhancing the station security. A significant contribution in this regard is made by the US energy department, which had rendered $18 million for that purpose. Let us remind that the operation of the Armenian Atomic Power Station was ceased due to recurrent repairs and refueling October 19, 2002 for 45 days. But the delay of new nuclear fuel supplies from Russia postponed the launching of the station. At the same time, as reported by “Arminfo” agency, each day of forced standstill of the station costs $100 thousand to the Armenian energy system.
