azg: ONLY 375,000 OUT OF 800,000 CARATS OF DIAMONDS ALLOWED UNDER RUSSIAN QUOTA IMPORTED TO ARMENIA IN 2002

YEREVAN, January 9 (Noyan Tapan). 375,000 carats of natural diamonds of jewelry value out of 800,000 carats of diamonds of jewelry and technical value allocated to Armenia under the Russian quota were imported to the Republic in 2002. According to the Head of the Jewelry Production Department of the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of Armenia Gagik Mkrtchian, 400,000 carats of diamonds both of jewelry and technical value are to be imported to Armenia in 2003 according to the Armenian-Russian agreement. To recap, the Armenian-Russian agreement foresees the import of 2.1 mln. carats of diamonds to Armenia within the period of 2002-2006.
