Noyan Tapan: IN COMPARISON WITH OTHER DIASPORAN CENTERS, LEBANON´S ARMENIAN SCHOOLS HAVE THE LARGEST LIST OF SUBJECTS OF ARMENIAN STUDIES

YEREVAN, December 18 (Noyan Tapan). Twenty-four Armenian daily schools operate in Lebanon, 16 of them operate in Beirut. Schools have two educational degrees, with the exception of the Zmmaria Poghos Seminary, the Armenian Evangelistic Central Higher Lyceum, the Armenian Catholic National Mesropian Higher Lyceum, and the National College of Yeghishe Manukian, which include all the five educational degrees: nursery-kindergartens, kindergartens, pre-educational, general and secondary. According to the Department for Foreign Relations of the RA Ministry of Education and Science, the bulk of Armenian schools in Lebanon were established during the period from 1922 to 1992, most of them were opened in the 1930s. The bulk of schools operate with the support of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Armenian Catholic Church and the Armenian Evangelistic Church. 205 teachers of Armenian work at these educational establishments, and most of them need re-training. Armenian schools are provided with textbooks. In comparison with other educational establishments in Diasporan communities, Armenian schools of Lebanon have the largest list of subjects of Armenian studies.
