YEREVAN, December 17 (Noyan Tapan). Armenian chess-players performed well at a US open tournament in Los Angeles, CA. Armenia’s Melikset Khachiyan (world class grand-master) and 2 former Yerevanians now representing the United States Varuzhan Hakobian (world class grand-master) and Armen Hambartsumian (grand-master) scored 5.5 points out of possible 8 at a tournament in which 48 chess-players were participating. They shared the third place. Our chess-players were half a point short of the winners – grand-masters Pavel Blatnoy (Czech Rep.) and Yuri Shulman (Belarus).
