One should not forget about the factor of opening the Armenian border with respect to Turkey’s membership in the European Union. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, European coordinator of the Armenian-Turkish council on business development Burju Gultekin told “525” Baku newspaper. He expressed hope for the new Turkish government to attach importance to projects referring to the countries of the East. “We work for the development of relations with the region and the opening of the Turkish-Armenian border plays an important role in this cause. The development of relations between the countries will contribute to establishment of peace and accord,” – Gultekin noted. In his words, intensification of processes is observed in the region and due to that Turkey should take into consideration the prospects of reestablishing ties with its eastern neighbor. The council coordinator noted that up to today individual Turkish businessmen, mainly from Igdir, had already visited Armenia, signing several contracts here. But these contracts are insignificant in their coverage and political basis is necessary for large investments. “Our aim is to contribute to political agreements,” – the Turkish businessman noted.
