Noyan Tapan: THERE ARE NEARLY FORTY EVERYDAY ARMENIAN SCHOOLS IN EUROPE

YEREVAN, December 16 (Noyan Tapan). There are nearly forty everyday Armenian schools in Europe. The Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry of Education and Science has information of only 17 of them. 2,177 children are currently enrolled in six Armenian schools in France, four in Cyprus, one in Italy, three in Greece, two in Bulgaria and one in Romania. Sunday schools attached to churches also exist in the aforementioned countries. According to the same source, most of the Armenian schools in Europe were founded in the 70s-80s and are now functioning due to the funds invested by sponsors. The schools have curricula, which, like the manuals, have been worked out outside Armenia. The Armenian language and Armenian literature are taught, as well as Armenian history, religion, history of the Armenian Church, and geography. These subjects are mainly taught in western Armenian. Close to forty kinds of Armenian language textbooks are currently used at the Armenian schools in Europe.
