The outstanding Armenian singer Mrs. Gohar Gasparian is celebrating today a birthday anniversary. A government commission should have been set up to mark the jubilee of the great singer or at least the culture ministry’s officials should have thought that by arranging a celebration for the singer they would have deserved the respect of all people who enjoy her singing. But this, however, is not the problem of Gasparian, as this neglect will not reduce her fame and gift.
Let us recall only that today is the birth anniversary of an Armenian singer who has been regarded as the “ambassador” of the Armenian music for more than half a century. She will remain as such. World newspapers wrote: “Gohar Gasparian is a miracle never heard before. Here is a wonderful voice combined with the excellent musical capacity and a perfect comprehension of the musical structure.” She toured in dozens of countries. The US daily Times wrote about her describing as “a choir.”
Let us today pay our deepest respect to her, to a woman who was to become lawyer by the desire of her parents, but adorned the world for the glory of her and Armenian musical art.
