Asbarez: Antelias Celebrates 1000th Anniversary of Krikor Naregatsi

ANTELIAS—On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Krikor Naregatsi, a unique tribute to the immortal author of the “Book of Lamentations” (Madyan Voghperkutian) was held in Antelias on December 1 at the Antelias St. Gregory Church. A holy Badarak was performed, during which the Catholicosal Encyclical of Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia was read.

Referring to Nareg (as people used to call him), “as a genius of human mind of his time,” the Catholicos described him as being a living person who came from God. “He is the power of human mind and soul,” read the Catholicosal message adding that each line written by Naregatsi is a weeping of the human soul.

Catholicos Aram I concluded his Encyclical letter by calling on all the Prelacies of Holy See of Cilicia as well as all Armenian cultural and educational institutions around the world to celebrate 2003 as the 1000th anniversary of Naregatsi’s Book of Lamentations, a tribute to his immense contributions to the Armenian people and church.
