Weightlifting (World Championships)
The 72nd Men’s and 15th Women’s World Weightlifting Championships started Monday (November 18) in Warsaw, Poland.
Armenia doesn’t have a women’s team, but is represented in four of eight men’s divisions by:
Arthur Danielyan (62kg), Vigen Khachatryan (77kg), Tigran Kamalyan (85 kg) and Ashot Danielyan (+105kg). The Armenian delegation is headed by the president of Armenian Weightlifting Federation Ogsen Mirzoyan.
So far, only the 62kg category has been completed, where Danielyan placed seventh out of 13.
Football (Armenian Premier League)
In the final round of the Armenian Premier League Gyumri Shirak took second place in the season with a 3-0 win over Lernagorts and a final aggregate of 51.
Ararat Harutyunyan, Vardan Bichakhchyan and Tigran Davtyan scored for Shirak.
Hayk Hakobyan’s goal gave Banants a win (1-0) over Ararat, securing third place with a season total of 50 points.
With a week of competition left, Pyunic became league Champions (59 points) following the previous week’s games, earning the right to represent Armenia in the Champions League.
Shirak and Banants will play in the UEFA Cup competition and Spartak, following its 4-0 final match victory over Dinamo-2000 will play in the Intertotto Cup.
Pyunic’s last match had no bearing on its standings, but the Champions ended their season with a 2-0 victory, bringing their season record to 19-2-1.
