Presenter The Council of Europe has been among the first to
welcome the formation of the new Turkish government. Council
Secretary-General Walter Schwimmer expressed strong approval
of Abdullah Gul’s appointment to the position of Turkish prime
minister. Mr Schwimmer said that the Council would support the
process of reforms in Turkey.
Yasar Yakis has been appointed foreign minister. He has said
that the Justice and Development Party which won the elections
stands for the improvement of relations with Armenia and will
take initiatives in this regard.
