YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS: Armenian president Robert Kocharian traveled today to the northern town of Gyumri to attend a ceremony of distribution of apartments in 4 blocks that were reinforced and completely repaired on funds, made available by a US-based Lincy Foundation.
The Foundation has committed to provide $30 million for building new apartments and restoration of old ones in the town which was nearly razed to ground by 1988 earthquake claiming 25,000 lives and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.
Currently 38 blocks of flats with 1,823 apartments are being built on Lincy funds.
From Gyumri president Kocharian headed for Spitak, which was the epicenter of the destructive earthquake, where also several new buildings with apartments for homeless families were inaugurated.
