HIS HOLINESS KAREKIN II SUPREME PATRIARCH AND CATHOLICOS OF ALL ARMENIANS
ARRIVES IN SYDNEY AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY — The spiritual father of the Armenian people, His
Holiness Karekin II arrived at Sydney International Airport this
morning and was greeted by Diocesan members, Church councillors,
representatives from various Armenian organisations and faithful
community members. After months of anticipation, the Armenian
communities of Sydney and Melbourne have embraced this occasion
and joined forces to ensure the inaugural Pontifical Visit of
His Holiness Karekin II will be a most memorable event.
This afternoon His Holiness will attend a press conference
with the local Armenian media. Later in the day, he will make
his way to the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection
at Chatswood where he will lead a religious procession into the
church for a Thanksgiving Service (Hrashabar) and the opportunity
to be greeted by congregation members (Achhampouyr).
On Friday 15 November, His Holiness will be paid courtesy
visits by the Armenian churches of Sydney and various Armenian
organisations.
His Holiness will begin calls at Armenian establishments on
Saturday afternoon with the first visits scheduled at three
Armenian Saturday Schools. A number of such engagements have
been planned for later in the week as well as meetings with
government officials. A State reception will be hosted by the
Premier of NSW on Wednesday afternoon.
On Sunday 17 November, His Holiness will celebrate the Divine
Liturgy to an expected 1,000 faithful congregation members and
dignitaries. Among the official guests will be representatives of
the Prime Minister of Australia and Premier of NSW, parliamentary
ministers and heads of churches.
On Sunday evening, an Official Reception Dinner will held in
honour of His Holiness at the Sydney Hilton Hotel.
