BASEL, Switzerland (AP) – Wimbledon runner-up David Nalbandian
topped Fernando Gonzalez 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 Sunday to win the Swiss
Indoors for his second title of the year.
Nalbandian, seeded seventh, never lost his serve and beat Gonzalez
in 97 minutes.
“I feel great today and I’m very happy,” Nalbandian said. “I
think I did everything almost perfect.”.
Gonzalez wasted three break points in the sixth game of the first
set before Nalbandian broke in the ninth game and served out.
Nalbandian broke early in the second set, and finished the match
with a break in the eighth game of the third set.
Nalbandian hadn’t been past the quarterfinals of any tournament
since losing to No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt at the All England Club
in July.
“After Wimbledon, maybe I lost a little concentration and
didn’t have much motivation. But I think I’m focussed again,”
Nalbandian said.
Brothers Bob and Mike Bryan of the United States beat top-seeded
Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor 7-6 (2), 7-5 for the doubles title.
