OCTOBER 21. A strong fire took place in the Armenian Church of St.Nshan in an ancient quarter of Tbilisi Saturday night.
According to ARMINFO’s own correspondent in Tbilisi, the Georgian police is considering many versions, except for short circuit as the church has had not electricity for many years already.
The Armenian ambassador to Georgia, Georgy Khosroyev, and representatives of local benevolent organizations have already visited the scene.
The church was built in 1701 at the expense of the well-known local philanthropists, the Lazarev brothers. It has been inoperative since the 30s’ of the 20th century and housed the National Library of Georgia. No single book has survived. The damage is being assessed.
