YEREVAN, OCTOBER 17, ARMENPRESS: In 1993, thanks to the attempts of Archbishop Karekin Nersissian (now Catholicos Karekin II) and the financial support of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, Araratian Patriarchal Diocese took three former pioneer palaces of Nor Nork, Arabakir and Malatia under its guidance renaming them as “Youth Centers”, which were transferred to the Diocese without compensation and time restriction in 1997.
Each Youth Center has its Director’s board and a pastor, who, besides being responsible for the education, also takes care of the spiritual needs of the staff, children and their families and also serves Holy Masses and Liturgies during week. Teachers of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese Christian Education Center are also involved in the Christian education process.
About 3,000 children receive professional skills and orientation in the arts, handicraft, sport and scientific-technical classes. There are also classes of literature, singing and music, painting, artistic handicraft, dancing etc.
Big and inner-class festivities are organized during the year, which include visits to museums, libraries, theaters, meetings with soldiers serving in the army, children of the dead freedom-fighters, as well as old people living at the nursing homes. Pilgrimages, exhibitions, sport competitions, benevolent concerts as well as a final concert in the end of the year are being organized.
