YEREVAN, OCTOBER 11, ARMENPRESS: Armenian deputy trade and economic development minister Ara Petrosian said some 135,000 foreigners were expected to visit the country before the end of the year.
Speaking to reporters after a Thursday government session the deputy minister said his optimistic view was based on the fact that some 57,861 foreigners had arrived in the country in the first six months of the year, by 10,000 more than in 2001, in which Armenia was celebrating the 17 centuries of conversion to Christianity with an extensive set of festivities and events.
Petrosian said each foreigner stays at least a week in Armenia spending some $1,000 here.
The government also approved on its Thursday session a bill on Tourism and Tourism Activity, which is believed to provide legal basis for travel agencies and other related bodies to promptly resolve or smooth away problems that may arise in their activity.
