The newly-appointed director of the South Caucasus Country Unit in the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia Region, Mrs Dowett-Coirolo has made a familiarization visit to Armenia. During the meeting with the director, President Robert Kocharyan noted with satisfaction that the cooperation between Armenia and the WB is developing effectively and that the bank plays an important role in the reform process. The president expressed confidence that the development of cooperation during the past years will serve as a basis for further cooperation in the future.
The director said that she will try to contribute to the economic development of Armenia that is implementation joint projects.
During the meeting between Prime Minister Andranik Markaryan and the newly-appointed director, issues concerning the implementation of economic reforms and poverty reduction programmes as well as campaign against corruption were discussed. Andranik Markaryan noted that the government in its state budget for 2003 will intend to increase social payments and salaries.
