YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian capital Yerevan will be hosting some 200 athletes from 37 countries late in August and early September, who will arrive in Yerevan to fight for the title of world kourash (a kind of wrestling) champion.
Alexan Harutunian, president of Armenian Kourash Federation, told a news conference today that Yerevan has won the right to host the championship in a struggle with Turkey and Iran. All in all 500 people are expected to come to Yerevan.
Kamil Yusupov, president of the World Kourash Federation and Hamid Yakubov, chief secretary of the Federation will be among the guests. Six teams from South America, five from Africa are also arriving, but the main fighting is expected to proceed among athletes from Central Asia, the homeland of kourash and Europe.
The competition will unfold in four weight categories for men and three categories for women.
