YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS: Armenians and music lovers throughout the world will be celebrating the 100-th birth anniversary of the prominent composer Aram Khachaturian in 2003. A government commission, appointed to handle the extensive series of events to mark the jubilee approved last week the program of events.
The week of Khachaturian’s music will be held from June 1 to June 6 next year in the Armenian capital. It will include a series of concerts and a conference dedicated to his creative work.
A competition of performers will also be held, it will be followed by performance of Khachaturian’s famous ballets Spartacus and Gayane. In September a musical competition will be held in Yerevan and in November the Philharmonic orchestra of Armenia will tour in France to perform Khachaturian’s music. Also a gold and platinum coin dedicated to the jubilee will be issued by the Central bank.
