YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Israeli Army has occupied the land that belongs to the Jerusalem Patriarchy of the Armenian Church. The land is located in the north of Bethlehem. The Army has justified this action by building a wall separating Palestine from Israel. Official Tel Aviv has already signed an order, under which the Armenian Patriarchy’s office will be turned into an army headquarters. A representative of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated July 18 that Yerevan knows about the confiscation of Armenian Patriarchy’s land by the Israeli Army, and that the ministry is in contact with Israeli officials, trying to find out the reasons and the final objectives of these actions on the part of Israeli Army.
In the last couple of weeks, the Patriarchy has been negotiating with Israeli Defense Ministry, trying to persuade the Ministry to cancel the aforementioned order.
“We use all diplomatic channels to clear up the situation with the lands of the Armenian Patriarchy of Jerusalem, and we already have Israel’s response. The Israeli authorities are conducting direct negotiations with the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem,” Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian said during his July 18 press conference.
According to him, the Foreign Ministry of Armenia is closely following the developments in Israel and is in constant touch with the Israeli Government: “We must specify this task through diplomatic channels.”
