ISTANBUL (A.A) – 26.06.2002 – Turkey’s Armenian Patriarch Mesrob II hosted on Wednesday a reception in the honour of Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanyan.
Addressing the reception, the patriarch said he hoped the contacts of Oskanyan in Istanbul would contribute to the improvement of the Turkish-Armenian relations, adding that ”peace in our region is our wish and the wish of the two peoples.”
Armenian Foreign Minister Oskanyan said in his part that he had very friendly ties with the Armenian community in Istanbul.
Upon questions of journalists about Turkish-Armenian relations, Mesrob II said that ”I don’t understand much from politics. But I am pleased that the leaders in the Black Sea basin came together and a positive atmosphere has been formed. Turkey carries out multidimensional relations, these are pleasing developments. I think we have many reasons to be optimistic.”
